The English Language Centre (ELC) is located on the
campus of The University of New England (UNE), in the northern
New South Wales city of Armidale. The city offers a unique
lifestyle of regional living with metropolitan resources,
country surroundings with a thriving city centre and a friendly,
welcoming community.
The costs of living in Armidale are generally
lower than in metropolitan areas, though the region still
boasts the facilities, culture and entertainment of a large
city. ELC students are also able to access all of UNE's
facilities, including sporting venues, vast libraries and
on-campus resources.
The beautiful surroundings of the ELC add to the unique
living and learning experience on offer to students. A wildlife
reserve full of kangaroos and deer is literally outside
the front doors of the centre!
English language courses are conducted for 45 weeks per
year, over academic terms and summer breaks. The ELC is
a centre for the globally recognised International English
Language Testing System (IELTS), with tests conducted on
site regularly throughout the year.
The English Language Centre also offers students English
language pathways to tertiary study at The University of
New England. Placement in a course at UNE is guaranteed
for academically qualified ELC students who reach the required
English language entry level.

ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
There are a range of accommodation options available to
ELC students both on-campus and in the city of Armidale.
Many ELC students choose to live in Homestay with a local
family, as this gives them a chance to experience Australian
life as well as improve their English - ELC staff find that
students who stay in Homestay accommodation are often much
more advanced in their English speaking and listening than
other students.
